Engineering Research: Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research

 

The IBEX summer internship for undergraduates - International Bachelors of EXcellence summer internship at the Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research (BIDR)

invites students to join their summer research internship program and participate in independent research in various projects focusing on energy, food, and water of arid regions.
 
 
The IBEX summer internship is a unique experience for undergraduate students, providing participants with the opportunity to actively conduct academic research and partake in scientific life. This includes attending weekly seminars, utilizing cutting-edge technology under the direct supervision of BIDR researchers, concluding with an academic symposium.
 
Concurrently, participating students will enjoy educational and social activities​ unique to
the Negev desert area and around Israel. BIDR, located in the Sde Boqer Campus, is an
international English speaking campus, providing a welcoming educational environment
for foreign students.
 
Research areas available at BIDR include the following:
o Agriculture
o Soil-Plant-Atmosphere Continuum (SPAC)
o Aquaculture
o Desalination and water treatment
o Hydrology
o Solar energy
o Environmental physics
o Ecology, conservation and wildlife management

Cost: IN prior years, participants were responsible for travel costs, health insurance and board (food/personal needs) and IBEX covered shared housing, educational trips, and bench fees.​ For Summer 2023, details are not yet published regarding costs and additional information. 
 
 Pitt Requirements:
 
  • Good academic and behavioral standing
  • Must be studying in your second year or higher at the time of application
  • Minimum 2.75 GPA
