Pittsburgh - London Film Program

The Pittsburgh-London Film Program aims to provide students with a uniquely rich academic and cultural experience, combining the highest level of academic expertise with the world class production skills of the Derek Jarman Lab. All the courses on the program take London as their focus and all seek to mix production with history and analysis.

To attest to the outstanding quality of this program, several of the Pittsburgh London Film Program student’s essay films have been selected to screen at the BFI Future Film Festival!

Plus3 Nursing

Plus3 is your first chance to study abroad at Pitt. This two-week, three-credit interdisciplinary experience will give you a firsthand glimpse of globalization through site visits, discussions with experts, and academic lectures that provide cultural and political perspectives.

 

Plus3 programs are open to first-year students only. Applicants apply during the fall semester of their first year and participate in the program in the May immediately following their first year.

 

Plus3 Transfer: Germany Business

This program is open to all Pitt Business juniors, seniors, and transfer students. If you are a junior or senior and were unable to participate in Plus3, you are eligible for this program. If you transferred into the business school during your college career after your first semester, you are eligible for this program. 

Science, Technology, and Culture of Craft Brewing: Belgium

Have you always wanted to understand the craft brew process while enjoying one of the most charming countries in Europe? This program is for you! 

If you are planning to take the Science, Technology, and Culture of Craft Brewing course (ENGR 1933), you can apply for the travel add-on course (ENGR 1920) to gain an additional credit. During the travel portion in Belgium, students will describe, analyze, and characterize the entire brewing process in a European context!  

Comparative Sign Language

This four week, six credit program, split between time in Pittsburgh and London, will give you the opportunity to examine the differences in British and American Sign Languages as well as British and American Deaf Culture. You'll spend the first two weeks of the program in Pittsburgh and the second two weeks in London.

Comparative Economics of Central Europe: Prague and Krakow

Study in the heart of Central Europe and get a feel for its past and development during this 3-week program. You will earn 3-credits while you study in Prague and Krakow. These cities are the ideal place to study post World War II economic and political redevelopment. This program is ideal for any student interested in history, politics, sociology, economics, and culture of post-war Czech Republic and Poland.

Student Teaching in Bolivia

This is a student teaching program for Education Majors. This is an excellent opportunity for students to apply methods learned at Pitt Greensburg or Pitt Johnstown to a real-world teaching experience! Students will spend half of the semester in Bolivia and the other half on their Pitt campus to complete their academics and to student teach. The student teaching placement is at Calvert CCS - Cochabamba Cooperative School, a local international school whose curriculum is primarily in English.

Exploration of Energy and Electrification: Brazil

This international experience course will explore energy conversion, conservation, delivery, and end-use in Brazil. Students will learn about the history of Brazilian energy infrastructure, and how it has driven Brazil’s strategy to generate and use renewable energy. There will be a heavy focus on hydropower which makes up the largest percentage of Brazil’s energy generation. In addition, students will explore new and emerging technologies which take advantage of other means of renewable energy. Students will also be exposed to Brazilian culture including food, music, dance, and sports.
